Justin hallawell

Master Potter

Justin’s work embodies a desire to convey & imbue forms with a sense of life, movement, vitality & presence.

Pieces often feel alive or still in motion with surfaces that indulge clays' ability to be skin & body-like.

Justin likes to be open to whatever comes up during the making process so he can acknowledge and pursue it.

Leaving a map of emotive experiences expressed in the clay!

Having experienced clay at an early age he was only really able to start exploring the making process at school.

But as given a pretty free rein there, it was an extremely valuable experience. Justin briefly worked at what was Lakes Pottery after school.

And the experience, offering him a window into 19th and 20th century pottery & ceramics made him want to go further.

While graduating with a show of bespoke handmade lighting at The Central School Of Art & showing at Young Designers, Business Design Centre, Islington Justin was also approached & selected by the Guardian & Observer newspaper to appear in article on art & design graduates. Showing one of his fluid white lamps he was dubbed ‘Young light’.

For the past several years, Justin has concentrate on imparting his knowledge to others by way of pottery lessons whilst maintaining his making of unique pottery designs for his old and new cliental.
